The Ubuntu United Nations (UUN) is a dialogue platform that seeks to bring changemakers across the world to speak on issues affecting them, to learn and share ideas with leaders such as Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, Former Heads of State and other global leaders through intergenerational dialogue.

Objectives

With the goal of promoting reconciliation, building bridges and promoting human dignity, the project has the following objectives:

  • Promote dialogue between and within communities for the promotion of peace and construction of Justice, contributing to the development of more inclusive and resilient societies;
  • Empower young people as agents of transformation at the service of communities, promoting the integrated development of skills, with a focus on capacities for servant leadership;
  • Develop an ethics of care, focused on empathy, attention and responsibility, considering three dimensions: myself, me and the other, me and the world.

Program Schedule

The second edition of the UUN is themed will be run in 2024, from April 27 to June 8 (Saturdays at 11:00 am GMT). The Ubuntu United Nations will start with the opening session, on the 27th of April, followed by five seminars:

  • Seminar 1, May 11th - Leading like Mandela: Human Dignity
  • Seminar 2, May 18th - Building Bridges: Inter-religious and Intercultural Dialogue
  • Seminar 3, May 25th - Overcoming Obstacles: Forgiveness and Reconciliation
  • Seminar 4,  June 1st - Ubuntu Lives: Civic Courage
  • Seminar 5, June 8th - I Have a Dream: Living Together in Peace

The legacy of world-renowned personalities such as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Malala Yousafzai will be passed on to new generations, inspiring them to commit, through Bridge Building, Servant Leadership and Ethics of Care, to social justice, human rights advocacy and sustainable development.

  • Seminars: 5 seminars, three hours each, on Saturdays, between April 27 and June 8. Online, through an internet platform.
  • Number of Delegates: 3 Participants per country 
  • Countries: 193 United Nations countries represented.

Eligibility

  • Youth leaders, with a strong commitment to serving the common good of their communities
  • Available and willing to go through the entire training program
  • English language fluency (upper-intermediate to advanced level)
  • Easy access to the Internet

  • Program ends: June 08, 2024

The Ubuntu United Nations initiative is organized by IPAV - Institituto Padre António Vieira with the support of the institutional partners: the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, the Organization of Iberoamerican States, the Club de Madrid, the Camões Institute, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Fundación Tomillo and the Fundación SM.

The Ubuntu United Nations will be held online and will be free of cost for the participants.
