Are you an aspiring African woman writer looking to develop your craft, connect with established authors, and gain publishing exposure? The Africa Women Writers Residency 2026 is now accepting applications for a fully funded literary development program culminating in an in-person residency in Nairobi, Kenya. Selected participants will receive mentorship, professional development support, and an opportunity to be published in a landmark anthology.
About the Residency
Organized by Majesty Publishing House Africa, the residency is a four-week program designed to nurture emerging women storytellers and amplify authentic African voices. The program combines three weeks of virtual workshops and mentorship with a one-week in-person residency in Nairobi, Kenya. Selected writers will contribute to the anthology "New African Voices: Stories That Shape Africa's Future."

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Be women writers from Africa
-
Be emerging writers with a strong body of work (published or unpublished)

Not currently have literary representation
-
Write in fiction, fantasy, creative nonfiction, memoir, or poetry

Be proficient in written and spoken English

Be available for the full four-week program, including the Nairobi residency week in September 2026
There is no age restriction.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
1. Motivation Letter
A 250-word statement introducing yourself and explaining your interest in the residency.
2. Writing Sample
Submit a piece based on the theme:
"A New Dawn for Africa"
Choose one of the following:

An essay or short story of up to 1,000 words

One poem of up to 1,000 words
-
Two poems totaling approximately 1,000 words
