The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has opened applications for the Fall 2026 cohort of the NASA EarthRISE Developers Academy, a prestigious workforce development program designed to prepare the next generation of Earth science and technology leaders. The program immerses participants in real-world projects that use NASA Earth observation data to solve pressing environmental and societal challenges.

What is the NASA EarthRISE Developers Academy?

The NASA EarthRISE Developers Academy is an interdisciplinary research and professional development initiative that provides participants with hands-on experience in applying NASA Earth observation data to support decision-making and problem-solving. Participants work collaboratively in teams on projects that address challenges in areas such as:

  • Agriculture

  • Disaster Management

  • Ecological Conservation

  • Energy and Infrastructure

  • Health and Air Quality

  • Water Resources

  • Wildland Fire Management

Through applied research projects, participants gain valuable experience in remote sensing, GIS analysis, technical reporting, communication, teamwork, and professional networking.

Who Can Apply?

NASA encourages applications from individuals with demonstrated experience or interest in:

  • Earth Sciences

Eligible applicants include:

Currently Enrolled Students

Students enrolled in accredited U.S. community colleges, undergraduate institutions, or graduate programs.

Recent Graduates

Individuals who graduated from a U.S.-accredited college or university within the last two years.

Early-Career and Transitioning Professionals

Professionals seeking additional experience in Earth sciences, remote sensing, or a related field, including veterans transitioning into civilian careers.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old before the start of the program.

  • Be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR).

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Demonstrate experience or skills in Earth science, GIS, remote sensing, environmental science, or computer science.

  • Be available to work approximately 25–29 hours per week throughout the program term.

  • Meet additional requirements based on whether they are applying for virtual or in-person opportunities.

  • Delivering professional presentations
